Craig Kimbrel (P - BAL)
7/6/24 2:00 AM - Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel has emerged from early stumble for best performance in years: 'He's been money'. Craig Kimbrel is hesitant to talk about his recent string of success. The numbers back up this approach: 15 years, 816 games pitched, 438 saves, nine All-Star appearances. “Only bad things can come from talking about that stuff,” Kimbrel said half-jokingly. In his first year with the Orioles, the 36-year-old has a sparkling 2.16 ERA and 22 saves with a 0.90 WHIP — numbers that would mark his best season since at least 2021 and perhaps since 2017.

7/5/24 5:00 PM - Tyson Miller quietly emerging as Cubs' trade chip at MLB Trade Deadline. The Chicago Cubs shouldn't be buying at the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and when the decision is between whether the Cubs should stand pat or sell, it's an easy one. While the Cubs may not have the star power to make the aggressive selling moves that Jed Hoyer accomplished at the Trade Deadline during the 2021 season, the team has several players who could be flipped without jeopardizing the long-term direction of the team. At the top of the list may be Tyson Miller, who the Cubs claimed off waivers earlier this season in an effort to stabilize a sinking bullpen. Blake Treinen (P - LAD)
7/5/24 1:30 PM - Dodgers Remain Confident In Blake Treinen Amid Recent Struggles. The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen has been key to their success this season, and Blake Treinen has been one of their best weapons as a high-leverage reliever. The Dodgers bullpen was hampered by injuries to Brusdar Graterol and Treinen during Spring Training, which impacted results to begin the season. There has since been an upward trend that coincided with Treinen being activated off the 15-day injured list May 5. For Treinen specifically, that started a stretch of 14 consecutive scoreless appearances that included 19 strikeouts, a 0.77 WHIP and .170 batting average against.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto (P - LAD)
7/5/24 12:13 PM - Yoshinobu Yamamoto Update: Expected To Start Playing Catch. The Los Angeles Dodgers have maintained a level of success this season because of a strong framework from their pitching staff. One of their main pieces, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, has been out for a few weeks as the team evaluates his best route to getting back on the mound. Roberts said right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been working with plyo balls and could start a throwing program by playing catch towards the end of next week. Having to operate without Yamamoto, Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw's slowed progress, the Dodgers aren't in a prime spot to withstand extended IL stints from a front-end arm.

7/5/24 12:06 PM - Yankees outfielder booed for 'sleeping' on play: 'Should be cut immediately'. The New York Yankees' struggles seemed to reach a new low Thursday with a lack of effort on a routine play. With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Cincinnati Reds DH Jeimer Candelario knocked a 1-1 pitch from Yankees reliever Caleb Ferguson up the middle and into center field. What should have been a single turned into a two-base play when outfielder Trent Grissom lazily approached the ball with one hand and then fumbled it, allowing a hustling Candelario to reach second on the error. The play prompted a cascade of boos from the Yankee Stadium crowd, some rare honest criticism from the YES Network booth and fans who want something done about it.

7/5/24 6:49 AM - Philadelphia Phillies Stuck With Struggling Starter At Trade Deadline. The Philadelphia Phillies pitching staff has been phenomenal for the most part, but one sore spot has stuck out this year. As The Athletic's Jim Bowden examined the state of contending the MLB trade deadline, he gave Philadelphia fans some potentially bad news about the fate of struggling starter Taijuan Walker. While some fans thought they may be able to flip Walker in a trade along with some prospects for one of the top deadline stars, but it does not look like the rest of the league hold him in high regards either. "At this point, the right-hander doesn't have much trade value even if the Phillies pay most of his remaining salary, especially for players the caliber of Robert, Happ, McCarthy and Chisholm," said Bowden.

7/5/24 6:20 AM - Yankees outfielder booed for 'sleeping' on play: 'Should be cut immediately'. The lows of the New York Yankees' losing ways seemed to reach a pinnacle Thursday with a lack of effort on a routine play. With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Jeimer Candelario knocked a Caleb Ferguson 1-1 pitch up the middle and into center field. What should have been a single turned into a when outfielder Trent Grissom lazily approached the ball with one hand and then bobbled it, allowing a hustling Candelerio to reach second. The play prompted a cascade of boos from the Yankee Stadium crowd, some rare honest criticism from the YES booth and fans who want something done about it.

J.P. Crawford (SS - SEA)
7/5/24 6:19 AM - Mariners look to build on win, host Blue Jays. A day after shortstop J.P. Crawford and first baseman Ty France walked through the clubhouse burning a couple of bundles of sage to "cleanse" each teammate's locker, the Seattle Mariners' offense finally ignited. Crawford's three-run double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday broke a tie as the American League West-leading Mariners snapped a four-game skid with a 7-3 victory against visiting Baltimore. Seattle will open a three-game home series with 1977 expansion brethren Toronto on Friday night. Julio Rodriguez snapped out of a 3-for-38 slump with a double and a homer, and Mitch Garver also went deep for the Mariners, who were limited to one run on seven hits in losing the first two games of the series to the AL East-leading Orioles.

Losing Giancarlo Stanton to the injured list last month was a crippling blow to the middle of the Yankees' lineup. Aaron Judge (OF/DH - NYY)
7/5/24 3:17 AM - Aaron Judge's personal coach is fed up with 'terrible' Yankees hitting as struggles mount. One of the fatal flaws of the Yankees during last season's debacle was that the lineup needed Aaron Judge in the lineup and producing ... or else. In 2024, Juan Soto joined Judge as his offensive sidekick, but a similar trend is bubbling this season: New York's lineup is too top-heavy. The promising lineup contributors that fueled a 45-19 start through June 6 have largely vanished to what is now a 54-35 record — and while the Yankees have generally stayed optimistic, someone close to captain Aaron Judge has let his dissatisfaction be known. “They've lost 13 out of 18 while he's hitting like an MVP,” Judge's personal hitting coach Richard Schenck wrote during the July 4 game, an eventual 8-4 loss.
