Yankees get ruthlessly clowned for countering Ice Cube with Fat Joe. By itself, there's nothing wrong with the New York Yankees picking rapper Fat Joe to perform before Game 3 of the World Series. When it comes with the Yankees down 0-2 in the series and after Ice Cube performed in Los Angeles before Game 2 at Dodger Stadium, it looks a little different. Just days after he electrified Barclays Center, first at the WNBA Finals then at the New York Liberty's championship celebration, his performance fell flat at Yankee Stadium. “Fat Joe & Nestor Cortes battling it out for worst World Series performance,” wrote one fan, comparing Fat Joe to the Yankees pitcher who gave up Freddie Freeman's majestic walk-off home run in Game 1.

10/28/24 3:00 PM -
This failed Chicago Cubs trade will be a popular rumor this offseason. The month of October, for teams not playing in the Major League Baseball postseason, is often the time when injury news becomes relevant as well as a reflection of moves that may have been in the works but, for one reason or the other, never materialized. Nico Hoerner has been at the center of each of those instances for the Chicago Cubs this month. Last week, it was reported that Hoerner underwent flexor tendon surgery. An initial timeline for Hoerner's recovery seems to have fallen into the four-month range, having him presumably ready for Spring Training.

MLB free agent rankings: Top five shortstops. Shortstop isn't a primary concern for the Boston Red Sox heading into the offseason. Trevor Story remains locked in as the team's starting shortstop with top prospect Marcelo Mayer likely to be called up at some point in 2025. That doesn't mean Boston won't explore the middle infield market this winter. For example, Willy Adames headlines this year's shortstop class and is an intriguing fit for the Red Sox as a right-handed hitter with pop. MLB free agent rankings: Top five third basemen. The Boston Red Sox don't need a third baseman. Rafael Devers signed a contract extension before the 2023 season that will keep him around until at least 2034. But if the Red Sox want to get creative, they could improve their infield defense this winter by signing a third baseman (Alex Bregman, anyone?) and moving Devers to first base or designated hitter. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic recently suggested this idea , which included trading first baseman Triston Casas for top-tier starting pitching.
