Why it matters: D.C. sports obsessives have long drawn parallels between their NFL team's final home game before the U.S. presidential election and which candidate ultimately wins. According to the long-running theory, star rookie QB Jayden Daniels' stunning 52-yard touchdown pass to vault the team to an 18-15 win in the final seconds is good news for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Bucs' Answers Are 'In the Locker Room' Amid Recent Skid. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 4-4 heading into their next two games — a brutal stretch that includes the last two teams to play in the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. The Bucs were a team largely praised in the media after a bilstering 3-1 start, but much like last year when the team started with that same record, it could find itself with a losing record very, very quickly. Tampa Bay's offense is firing, but it now lacks its two biggest playmakers in wideouts Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and quarterback Baker Mayfield has thrown seven interceptions in three weeks. Nothing seems to be going right on the defensive side of the ball, as the Bucs are a bottom-five defense in numerous metrics and have given up 27 or more points in its last four games.

Commanders WR Noah Brown Reflects on Hail Mary That Beat the Bears. -- It was going to be a story about just how far the Washington Commanders have come, yet how far they still have to go. After leading pretty much the entire game, it looked like the Commanders were going to lose to the Chicago Bears despite outpacing them by over 100 yards of offense. For the first 59 minutes and 35 seconds of Week 8, Washington held the Bears in check. Then, with just two seconds left, down three and out of field goal range, it was going to come down to a 'Hail Mary' or the old lateral and run play.

Arizona Cardinals get big win with help from former Stanford WR. The Arizona Cardinals needed a win badly on Sunday, with the NFC West race wide open for the taking. Thankfully, a last second field goal from Chad Ryland was enough for the Cardinals to beat the Miami Dolphins 28-27 to extend their winning streak to two in a row and improve their overall record to 4-4. On their opponent's six yard line down 10-0 early in the second quarter, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray dropped back to pass out of the shotgun, moving around the pocket, before finding a wide open Wilson in the back of the end zone, to cut the Dolphins lead to only 10-7.

Everybody Loves Raymond: Lions WR Represents Team. If there is one player that perfectly embodies the toughness and grit that have become staples of Dan Campbell's Detroit Lions teams, it is Kalif Raymond. Raymond, who has gone from a career journeyman to one of the mainstays of the Campbell era, has fought tooth and nail to stay in the NFL. At just 5-foot-8, Raymond has been the proverbial underdog since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016 out of Holy Cross. Plus, he spent the majority of those years on teams' practice squads.

It was just eight games old. Time of death was called at 4:02 p.m., when a 25-22 loss to the Patriots was sealed and a familiar bones collector appeared. Pat Patriot — that wide-mouthed mascot in the clunky boots — still is patrolling Gillette Stadium for corpses even after longtime Jets nemeses Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have moved on. In retrospect, should Giants have done more to convince Steelers' Russell Wilson to sign?. This spring, weeks before the Giants knew what they would do with the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft — which wound up being used on stud receiver Malik Nabers and not a rookie quarterback — they flew ex-Broncos QB Russell Wilson in for what ESPN called an “exploratory meeting.” If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
