At the beginning of August, it wasn't clear whether infielder Zach McKinstry would keep his roster spot, given the roster upheaval of the trade deadline and the promotion of several young players. A month later, McKinstry is not only still here, he's the hottest hitter on the team. The 29-year-old utility man was named the Detroit Tigers' player of the month after a sizzling August in which he hit .368 in 73 plate appearances, including a career-best 11-game hitting streak from Aug. 17-31.
