Jerod Mayo wasn't at the helm of the New England Patriots when they made the head-scratching decision to select Tyquan Thornton in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. “I think there was a lot of love for Tyquan,” Mayo told reporters Wednesday, per team-provided transcript. Mayo took the high road, but his response wasn't convincing to even slightly change the perception of Thornton among Patriots fans.

11/19/24 Patriots Made Catastrophic Trade Deadline Mistake. Outside of trading edge rusher Josh Uche in late October , the New England Patriots held serve at the trade deadline in spite of possessing numerous tradeable assets on their roster. Many expected the Patriots to make at least one move before the Nov. 5 buzzer, and the most obvious route seemed to be jettisoning one of their wide receivers that that weren't properly utilizing. That's why Tyquan Thornton's name was mentioned in trade speculation , but the youngster was not dealt before the deadline. Instead, New England released Thornton, and he immediately signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. The fact that Thornton signed so quickly indicated that there was obvious interest in him, and here's

11/16/24 Patriots surprisingly release former second-round wide receiver before Rams clash. On Nov. 16, the team confirmed that they would be releasing third-year receiver Tyquan Thornton, per Adam Schefter. The young wideout had been missing practice leading up to the game for personal reasons, though it is unclear if that had anything to do with his release. Known for his speed, Thornton initially turned heads at the 2022 NFL Combine when he ran an unofficial 4.21-second 40-yard dash.

11/14/24 Patriots Injury Report: Wideout Surprisingly Absent From Practice. Tyquan Thornton is trending in the wrong direction as the New England Patriots wide receiver has been a healthy scratch for four out of the last five games. And Thornton surprisingly wasn't out on the practice field Thursday. The Patriots revealed why when they released their injury report later in the day. Thornton isn't injured but missed the practice session due to personal reasons. New England's defensive line is still in the same troubling spot it was in Wednesday. Defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. both missed practice for the second straight day ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots did get a lift from that

11/05/24 Making sense of Patriots' lack of NFL trade deadline day moves. Several New England Patriots players were the subject of trade rumors over the last few weeks, but Tuesday's NFL trade deadline ultimately came and went without the AFC East franchise making any major moves. The Patriots dealt edge rusher Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs last week in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Players such as defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, cornerback Jonathan Jones, and wide receivers Tyquan Thornton, Kendrick Bourne and K.J. Osborn all stayed with the Patriots through the 4 p.m. ET deadline.

11/02/24 Patriots WR Could Benefit From Trade. The New England Patriots are in dire need of receiving help, which is why it may seem odd that they could be looking to trade some wide receivers by the NFL deadline. But due to the fact that some Patriots wideouts are clearly not fitting in, it may be time for New England to cut the cord. A perfect example is Tyquan Thornton , who Bleacher Report's David Kenyon has named among seven players in need of a change of scenery. "After playing in 66 percent of snaps as a rookie, he dipped to 42 percent in 2023 and is down to 30 percent in 2024," Kenyon wrote. "Thornton is behind four receivers on the depth chart, and three of them—Demario Douglas, Ja'Lynn Polk and Kayshon Boutte—are also 24 or younger.

10/25/24 Patriots Reveal New Plans for Overlooked WR. The New England Patriots have been experiencing a whole lot of issues at the wide receiver position this season, and it mainly stems from a lack of elite talent. Of course, it may benefit New England to pursue a trade for some help, but as of right now, the Pats may have to search for internal options. One such possibility is Tyquan Thornton, who has barely gotten any playing time this season and has actually been dubbed a potential trade candidate.

Brissett's streak without an interception ended when 49ers star LB Fred Warner returned one to the house off the Patriots quarterback. From this perspective, this interception is all about Brissett staring down Tyquan Thornton's route on the "super" mesh-style concept. With three in-breakers to Brissett's left, Thornton is not a bad option here against a cover two zone.
